About the GTIN Check Digit & GS1 Parser

Type a product, book or shipping number and the checker names it (GTIN-8, UPC-A, EAN-13, GTIN-14, SSCC, ISBN, ISSN, UPC-E), says whether its check digit is right and what it should be. It converts between ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 and expands UPC-E. Paste a GS1 element string, bracketed or raw from a scanner, and it splits it into Application Identifiers with dates, weights and check digits verified.

Frequently asked questions

How is a GTIN check digit calculated?
From the right, digits are multiplied alternately by 3 and 1 and added up; the check digit is what brings the total to the next multiple of 10.
What is a GS1 Application Identifier?
A number in brackets that says what the data after it is: (01) a GTIN, (17) an expiry date, (10) a batch, (21) a serial number. Labels on cartons, pallets and medicines use them.
Is anything I type or scan uploaded?
No. Codes are drawn and read inside your browser (bwip-js and the ZXing reader, compiled to WebAssembly); nothing you type, upload or point the camera at reaches our servers.
Can I make codes from a script, a spreadsheet or an AI agent?
Yes, with no account. https://openvibe.tools/api/codes/qrcode.svg?text=Hello is the image itself (any symbology, .svg or .png; /api/codes lists them), so it works in an <img> tag or Markdown. POST /api/v1/tools/<tool>/run answers JSON, and the OpenAPI document is at https://openvibe.tools/api/v1/openapi.json.
